Meet Monserrat Macias | Advocate for the Latino Community

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monserrat Macias and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monserrat, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want people to remember me by the passion I have for helping my community. Being a first-generation immigrant, I am not letting that stop me from, one, helping my community, and two, being successful. Growing up, I saw the effects of fear stopping people from moving forward in life. I did not want that to be me. I want all of my community to learn that your citizenship status, color of skin, or lack of domination of the English language should not be factors that stop you from being successful. It is scary, and there might always be doubts in the back of your mind, but ignore them! We can accomplish so much as individuals. I have made it my goal to ensure [I] empower my community so that they understand that and stops listening to the fear in the back of their minds so that they can move forward.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have spoken about my business in previous articles with Shoutout. Today, I want to share that since then, I’ve been taken an Entrepreneurship class with The Thrive Network. I am so grateful to have been selected for it. It has allowed me to shape my business into something that it wasn’t before. When I started Consulta, I just wanted to help people, so I did! I started offering translations, Notary Services, and assistance registering new businesses. At this point, it was just me being the helpful me, and turning it into a business. As time went by, I realized that I wasn’t structured like most businesses, I didn’t have a business plan, I didn’t have procedures in place, I was just doing what needed to get done. And I was lucky that it worked for me. However, Going into my third year of business, I decided I wanted to be structured like a real business, and have all of those things in place. Thanks to the Thrive Network, I was able to accomplish that. I am sharing this because I want people thinking about starting their business to not let the fact that they don’t have any of that stop them. Yes, it is important to have it, but if you don’t take action, nothing is going to happen. Trust me, as you grow your business, you learn and you adapt.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I will always be grateful for my parents, my parents have supported me and believed in me since childhood. Their confidence and encouragement has shaped who I am today. Also, my husband, who has supported every single step I take. Even when I am not sure of things, he gives me the confidence boost I need to take action. I love you so much babe!”
